Important Seafood FAQs

seafood FAQs

We hope these seafood FAQs will answer your questions about seafood!

At Costas Inn, we are incredibly pleased to provide our customers with fresh and delicious seafood from the great state of Maryland. Whether you’re a seafood connoisseur or a new seafood lover, here are some of the most important FAQs people ask about seafood.

What are the Health Benefits of Seafood?

The National Dietary Health Guidelines suggest that everyone should increase the amount of seafood that they’re eating in the average week to 2-3 servings every week. Seafood has major brain and heart health benefits for everyone from adult males to breastfeeding or pregnant women. Many other foods are being discouraged, so the fact that a national association is encouraging consumption is a true sign of just how healthy seafood is.

How Can I Increase the Amount of Seafood My Family Eats?

This FAQ is very common in households that eat a lot of chicken and steak where children aren’t quite sure how they feel about fish. Teach your children where seafood comes in and how many different ways it can be prepared. If they have a say in which fish you cook and how it is cooked, they will be much more likely to try the end result. If you serve seafood during lunch or dinner, make one meal for everyone to eat and tell your children how much they will like it, instead of saying that they just need to have one bite. There is nothing wrong with starting with simpler methods of preparation like frying before you move on to other methods that your children might be less receptive to.

Are Some Types of Seafood Better Than Others?

Healthy eating habits are important for children and adults, and the national dietary guidelines suggest consuming a wide variety of delicious seafood. Some types of seafood offer more omega-3s than others, so they might be “better” for you depending on what your goal is.
