When you sit down to a delicious seafood dinner, you are probably wondering what the specials are that night. Whether you are ordering out or making a wonderful meal at home, the soup, appetizers, salads, and desserts all play a part in making the occasion complete. So, if you are curious about what desserts play well with crab cakes and other types of seafood, then we have those answers for you!
For Clams, Mussels, and Oysters
Let’s start by talking about shellfish. You’ll often find lemon on the plates that are served to you when clams, mussels, and oysters are involved. Lemon sorbet is an excellent palate cleanser, especially after you chow down on fried oysters, mussels marinara, or clams on the half shell. It’s also a fantastic dessert after having sushi or sashimi.
Fish filets or fillets aren’t always just the breaded and fried slabs that you’ll find at fast-food joints. Cod, salmon, and tuna are excellent filet dishes. Try sorbet, key lime pie, and lemon meringue pie. If none of those appeals to you, then fruit cocktail, lime gelatin, and grapefruit sorbet go well with flounder and mahi-mahi.
For Shrimp, Crabs, and Scallops
Shrimp, crabs, crab cakes, and scallops are incredibly versatile. Try experimenting with sweet and salty. For instance, chocolate and sea-salt are rapidly gaining popularity in the culinary community – so why don’t you try your hand at it? Brownies, chocolate cookies dashed with sea-salt, chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel icing, warm and salty kettle corn, chocolate-covered pretzels, and dark-chocolate dipped and salt-dusted crostini are all scrumptious desserts!
Here we come to the main event. Lobsters are often thought of as the king of seafood. After all, it’s semi-sweet, rich, and moist all at the same time. Fruit gelatin and sherbet are nice choices, as are fruit tarts. Give all of these desserts a shot!
