Beer with crabs is a classic Baltimore combination that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. When you come to Costas Inn, ready to enjoy your classic blue crab feast, you’re going to want to have the best beer pairing. Here is a selection of the best beers for crabs and why; and Costas Inn has all of them, ice cold and ready to go.
- National Bohemian (Natty Boh)
You can’t make a list like this without including Baltimore’s Natty Boh. If you’re visiting from another state to enjoy our Maryland blue crabs, you’ll want to pick a Baltimore favorite to really enjoy the local cuisine. It goes without saying that two Maryland favorites should be paired together.
- Blue Moon
Seafood in general goes well with a Belgian white beer, and a popular choice is Blue Moon. Typically, Blue Moon is considered to be a more fruity beer. The taste, which can be described as an orange-infused dry ale, pairs perfectly with spicy Old Bay. The dryness of Blue Moon works excellently when it is contrasted by something like crab meat.
In 2007, Budweiser released a Super Bowl advertisement that showed crabs stealing a cooler of beer and worshiping it like a god. If this doesn’t indicate to you that Budweiser goes great with crabs, what will? This beer is a classic, and well-known for good reason. When it’s ice cold, it can balance out the Old Bay that will coat your crabs.
- Dogfish Head
Like Natty Boh, Dogfish is a Maryland-centric but wide-reaching company that is known for its ale. This beer was essentially designed to go with seafood, so it will be perfect when paired with crab meat. Because of Dogfish’s closeness to the Chesapeake Bay, they have intimate and local knowledge of how crabs taste and how they should be complemented.
