Fun Facts About Natty Boh!

Natty Boh on tap

Another fun fact about Natty Boh: it wasn’t available on tap for 15 years, from 1996 to 2011! Nowadays, you can find Natty Boh on tap in many restaurants, including Costas Inn!

Nothing says “Maryland” more than a steaming plate of Old Bay crabs and a refreshing can of Natty Boh! For 131 years Natty Boh has been proudly making a beer that is so good it’s earned its famous cult following and the devotion of many Baltimorean fans. Read on to learn more about why this classic Maryland beer is so great!

It Truly is a Maryland Drink

Even though Natty Boh is now brewed in North Carolina and Georgia, it’s still a Maryland beer at heart. In fact, 90% of Natty Boh sales occur in Baltimore! That’s what we call loyalty!

Natty Boh is Responsible for the Six-Pack

Natty Boh was the first beer company to start selling beer in six-packs. They introduced six-packs of Natty Boh in the 1940s, and the idea caught on. We have Natty Boh to thank for the way we buy most beers today.

The Legend of Natty Boh’s Logo

Many people have wondered why the Natty Boh logo only has one eye. Since the company is so old, there are many legends surrounding the logo design. The most popular one has to do with Natty Boh’s top competitor in the post-prohibition 1930s: Gunther Beer. Gunther Beer’s motto was “Gunther’s got it.” A popular answer to the question “What happened to Mr. Boh’s other eye?” was “Gunther’s got it.” This playful interaction with a competing brand and the fun aspect it gave to the Natty Boh logo is probably one of the many reasons that the company has been so successful to this day.

Goes Great with Crabs and Old Bay!

True Marylanders love a hearty helping of Old Bay crabs with a can of Natty Boh to wash it all down. Some have even taken it to the next level by creating inventive cocktails that incorporate both elements together. You Got Crabs is the name of a drink at the Red Derby that involves doing a shot of Old Bay vodka and chasing it with a can of Natty Boh. You can also try a Boh-tini, which is a glass of Natty Boh that comes rimmed with Old Bay and with a side of crab meat. Come to Costas Inn to get your fill of both steamed Old Bay crabs and Natty Boh!
