5 Easily-Avoidable Seafood Cooking Mistakes for Your Holiday Weekend Feast

Are you preparing seafood for your 4th of July bash?

Are you preparing seafood for your 4th of July bash? Avoid these common mistakes! After all, seafood is amazingly delicious. The problem is, when mishandled, it could turn into a mealtime catastrophe. The pressure gets even higher when planning a banquet for a special occasion like the 4th of July. Independence Day is coming, so declare your love for fish, scallops, and calamari!

Overloading the Pan

This may sound like overly simplistic advice, but take our word for it. Overloading the cooking pan is one of the worst things you could do when you’re trying to prepare seafood properly. Bear that in mind as you start up the stove. Some of the food could end up undercooked while the rest will be overcooked. Both outcomes are going to ruin the experience!

Stirring Way Too Often

While at first, it seems reasonable to keep stirring what’s heating up, don’t do this. Let one side cook until it looks delightfully browned. Then flip it over and give the other side time to get tastier. Otherwise, the insides of the food will be cold to the taste.

Turning Up the Heat

Avoid the temptation to jack up the heat on the burners. Instead, be gentle. A slow simmer works. Add the right amount of seasonings and decrease the heat. A quiet simmering for the next 8 or 9 minutes should be sufficient.

Forgetting to Taste While You Cook

It’s also super important to taste your seafood while you cook it. This advice is valuable for cooking other types of protein and veggies, of course. Still, you don’t want to forget about it when shrimp and other fragile foods are on the line. You’ll be able to determine if it has an enjoyable flavor and if your raw ingredients are still edible.

Picking Out the Wrong Ingredients

Don’t be afraid to carefully select the ingredients that you use. For example, if you happen to misread labels or make an unfortunate mixup, such mishaps can spell unintentional disaster!
