Crabs are a delicious seafood dish often served in their shell.

Crabs are often served in their shell, making eating them challenging and messy. In order to reach the meat inside of a crab, it requires a bit of effort, requiring you to break it into pieces and dig inside using your fingers and various crab-eating utensils. I hope you brought your bib with you because listed below are some helpful tips for eating crabs.

Prepare for a Mess

Eating crabs can get messy, so it’s recommended that you set yourself and your table up with table coverings, napkins, bibs, aprons, gloves, and wet wipes to help manage the mess that comes from devouring delicious crab meat.

Using the Proper Utensils

Utilizing crab-eating utensils makes the crab-eating process a little less messy, easier, and more convenient. Breaking a crab’s shell often requires time and effort; however, using various utensils such as a crab knife, crab mallet, seafood picks, or seafood crackers can make the crab-eating experience more enjoyable and less enjoyable strenuous.

How to Eat Crabs

Step 1:

First, you want to remove the legs and claws from the crab’s body in a rotating motion. The legs typically don’t have as much meat as the body and claws but are still edible with a seasoned taste. Seafood picks are great for scooping the meat out of crab legs, ensuring that you don’t leave any excess meat behind in the shell, while seafood crackers are great for cracking the hard exterior of crab claws.

Step 2:

Next, you’ll open up the body of the crab by removing the top of its exterior shell.

Step 3:

Now that you’ve removed the top half of the crab’s shell, it’s time to clean its interior. You can use a crab knife or your finger to scrape away the inedible parts of your crab’s interior while leaving the edible parts intact.

Step 4:

Finally, it’s time to enjoy some delicious crab meat. Break your crab in half and begin removing the meat from the crab’s shell using either your fork or finger and enjoy your seafood feast.
