Do You Know What Ceviche Is? We Can Enlighten You!

We’ve got ceviche as part of our dinner specials rotation. Please read on to learn more about it!

We’ll come right out and say it: as much as you love seafood, you’re probably looking for something a little bit different. What did you have in mind for tonight’s dinner? Changing up your menu doesn’t need to be difficult. Perhaps you’ve come in one night, keen to try something new? Well, we’ve got ceviche as part of our dinner specials rotation. Please read on to learn more about it!

The Ceviche We Offer

As is the case with many unfamiliar words, it can be tough to learn proper pronunciations. After all, how would you know how to say something if you’ve never heard it said out loud before? In this case, this wonderful term is pronounced as “seh-VEE-chay,” so be sure to emphasize the syllable in the middle. Our own house-made recipe contains fresh calamari, shrimp, and scallops. Then we marinate everything in freshly squeezed lemon and lime juices. Citrus can really make anything pop! Then we add onion, tomato, peppers, and herbs. If you want a side with that, dig in with the pile of crispy tortilla chips that come with your order!

Pro Tip for Preparation: Cook It First!

You’ve probably encountered ceviche that was served “raw” before; the citrus juices are enough to make the shrimp and other proteins safer to eat. Even so, you’d probably enjoy the taste and texture better by heating things up a little bit. Poaching and parboiling hit this target admirably. Overcooking will result in a disappointing meal that isn’t true to its origins.

Toppings, Fillings, and Other Delights

There’s a reason we used the toppings, seasonings, and fillings that we do. Chiles, cilantro, and even avocados can take the flavors up another notch. The natural acids in the juices keep the avocado from turning an unappealing shade of brown as well. Feel free to experiment with different combinations of fish and shellfish. Each region of Latin and South America has put its own twist on it. Fish, shrimp, and octopus are just some of the delightful seafood variations you’ll find.
