How to Serve Crab Cakes

What’s your favorite way to enjoy crab cakes?

You probably know that crab cakes from Costas Inn are downright delicious and satisfying. If not, then come visit and try some! Or order crab cakes, and even gluten-free crab cakes, in the mail! Whether they’re made by our chefs at Costas Inn or they are homemade by your grandmother, crab cakes are an exquisite Maryland treat all by themselves. However, you can always make a plain crab cake even more satisfying by knowing how to serve it! There are many options to try, and we’ve listed a few below.

The Crab Cake Bun

Many people prefer to eat their crab cakes layered with lettuce and tomato on a soft bread bun. This is an excellent way to enjoy a crab cake because the soft, buttery flavor of the bun perfectly complements the soft, buttery flavor of the crab meat. The refreshing bite of the lettuce and tomato gives a crab cake on a bun a nice balance of crisp refreshment. If you’d rather forego the bun, or if you’re gluten-free, you can enjoy a lone crab cake with some sauce and an ice cold Natty Boh.

Crab Cake Sides

The flavor of crab meat is very sweet and delicate, so it’s important not to overwhelm the taste with something that is super spicy or overly flavorful. If enjoying your crab cake with a sauce, go for a nice remoulade, or try our Costas Inn tartar sauce! When choosing a side to go with your crab cake, consider starches, like potatoes or french fries, for a hearty crab cake meal. Or, you can go light with a salad that acts as a palate cleanser, helping you to savor every bite of delicious crab cake.

Beverages

As we said earlier, you can’t go wrong with a frosty Natty Boh to wash down your crab cake. Not only is Natty Boh basically Maryland’s beverage of choice, it’s also a pale ale, meaning that the flavor is not so overwhelming that it will drown out the taste of the crab. If you’re going for something classier, try a glass of white wine; similarly to pale ales, white wines pair well with seafood because of the delicate and smooth flavor of the beverage.
