Which Species of Fish Are the Healthiest to Eat?

Do you have fish in your diet?

We’ve all heard the reports and studies that adding fish to our diets provides many beneficial nutrients and vitamins that we could all benefit our diets. However, not all fish offers the same benefits and advantages. To get the most out of eating seafood, do your research into the types of fish you should include in your diet.

Atlantic Mackerel

Atlantic mackerel makes the top of the list of the healthiest species of fish to eat. While it’s low in mercury, it’s high in omega-3. In fact, it provides eight times the recommended daily intake of omega-3. It’s also known for its sustainability as it’s a very common fish found in the Mediterranean Sea, the northern Atlantic Ocean, and the Black Sea. Atlantic mackerel also provide around 16 grams of protein per 3 ounces.

Pink Salmon

Pink salmon is known as the most abundant of the Pacific salmon. It provides 17.4 grams of protein per 3 ounces and an excellent amount of omega-3s. It’s known as a heart-healthy fish and great for building muscle. Many people also enjoy eating the roe for caviar.

Atlantic and Pacific Halibut

Halibut is a meaty white fish that is known for its mild flavor. It’s incredibly versatile for cooking and provides approximately 40  grams of protein per 3 ounces. It’s also a low-calorie fish, but filling which makes it a favorite among people trying to lose weight. Pacific halibut is more abundant than Atlantic, so industry experts advise eating more halibut from the Pacific.

Canned Sardines

They might not be the most popular option on the list, but canned sardines in oil provide about 21 grams of protein for 3 ounces. Since sardines are so small, they are low in mercury. They also have a tremendous amount of vitamin D and selenium.
