What You Need for a Crab Feast

Crab season is just around the corner!

The crab feast is one of the most popular summer events, especially in Maryland. Crabs are something that many people enjoy experiencing with family and friends, and hosting a feast is a great way to socialize while enjoying the delicious summer flavors of crabs and other dishes. If you’re planning on hosting a crab feast, check out this guide of what you’ll need for a successful and delicious day.

On the Table

No one that enjoys eating crabs will tell you that it’s a neat and delicate process; eating crabs is messy. With that said, you’ll need to set your table with plenty space and materials to handle the job. Use a long, rectangular table with enough space for seating on both sides. Wide tables are also a great choice because they allow space to crack and open your crabs, eat, and pile up the shells when you’re finished. Cover the table in newspaper or other brown paper that you can easily throw away when you get finished. In addition, have a set of mallets, butter knives, and rolls of paper towels spaced out across the table. Although many enjoy eating crabs by themselves, other like melted butter, vinegar, and even extra seasoning.

In Your Cup

Crabs and beer is a winning combination, especially of the light variety. Grab your favorite light beer to pass around the table. The taste is refreshing enough to cool your taste buds without overpowering the flavors of the crabs.

On the Side

Although crabs are the star of the feast, many people enjoy the flavors of other foods that crabs pair well with. Vegetables like corn, tomatoes, and cucumbers are great to serve alongside the crabs. You could also include other regular cookout staples like hot dogs, hamburgers, and even fried chicken.
