3 Seafood Preparation Tips

Always be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling raw seafood.

When you are not enjoying seafood at Costas inn, you may want to try your hand at preparing seafood at home. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of mistakes when they are cooking seafood. If you are a rookie when it comes to preparing seafood, keep reading for a few seafood preparation tips!

Thawing Seafood

Do not thaw seafood on the counter at room temperature. Instead, you want to thaw frozen seafood such as fish or shrimp, keep it in the refrigerator, in the microwave, or by running it under cold water. When thawing packaged seafood from the store, you want to follow the manufacturer’s directions.

Washing Hands Thoroughly

Always be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling raw seafood. You want to be sure to use hot water and soap to rid your hands of all harmful bacteria that could cause you or others to get sick. You also want to be sure to clean counters, cutting boards, plates, and utensils the same way to prevent any cross-contamination.

Marinate Seafood In The Fridge

Fish and shellfish need to be kept in the refrigerator. People make the mistake of leaving it at room temperature, which can cause a person to get sick. The only time you can keep seafood out of the fridge or refrigerator is when you have it on ice.

Rinse Seafood before Cooking

It is always a good idea to rinse off seafood off with cold water before cooking it to remove any lingering surface bacteria.
