Great Dipping Sauces for Crabs and Crab Legs

Just like other types of meaty proteins, crabs and crab legs are even more delicious when enjoyed with dipping sauces.

Crab lovers can rejoice! If you love eating crab legs at restaurants, you can bring that experience home with you. Just like other types of meaty proteins, crabs and crab legs are even more delicious when enjoyed with dipping sauces. Which one is your favorite? You don’t have to feel obligated to answer with “butter”, which is still totally okay! Feast your eyes on these dipping sauce ideas before your next dinner party that has crab meat on the menu!

A Brandy-Based Mayo

It might surprise you to learn that mayo pairs with seafood! This brandy-based dipping sauce brings another dimension of flavor to the table, though. It is tangy and brings a balance to any crab legs that you want to devour. It is similar to a sweet and sour sauce you can get from a Chinese restaurant – and it all comes from ketchup, sour cream, and brandy.

A Chive Emulsion

Next up on our list is a chive emulsion. What’s in this blend, you ask? Well, have we got a treat for you! Chives, canola, and olive oils come together to make some serious magic.

Clarified Butter

As we noted above, butter is still a scrumptious sauce for crabs and crab legs. Clarified butter takes it to the next level. That’s because it incorporates garlic and chilies for a burst of flavor that will be a party for your taste buds! It’s sweet, nutty, and hot all at the same time.

Diablo Sauce

Speaking of heat and spice, indulge in some diablo sauce. It uses tomatoes as a base and then integrates serrano peppers and spicy chile powders. Since crab legs are so mild, they are the perfect vehicle for this type of dipping sauce!

Tartar Sauce

Tartar sauce makes a great accompaniment for fish and chips, but did you know that it’s also great with crab, crab cakes, and crab legs? Capers, shallots, and parsley will blow canned jars of the sauce from the supermarket out of the water!

Ponzu Sauce

You can’t overlook ponzu sauce, either! It’s easy to assume that this sauce is only good for crab wontons or shrimp dumplings, but that isn’t true! Bonito tuna flakes and dried seaweed or kombu make this sauce savory and rich!
