Eating Healthy: Choosing the Best Fish

Basing your diet around fish can be one of the healthiest decisions you can make.

Basing your diet around fish can be one of the healthiest decisions you can make. Now that summer is almost here, think about making a change. For many people, Memorial Day is a day where you barbecue up hot dogs, hamburgers, and baby back ribs. Still, you can look ahead to eating these healthier types of fish for some nice variety.

Eating Healthy Fish

Many types of seafood are right for you – the key is to eat in moderation. Seafood will still have plenty of seasonings to add flavor, and you don’t want to overdo it on the salt or the breading, even if you like fried fish more than steamed or broiled. You also get plenty of minerals and vitamins, such as B12, D, zinc, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. Avoiding heart disease is one of the benefits of eating healthy fish, and if your family history indicates heart problems or other related cardiovascular issues, then you should reconsider your eating habits, especially if you have other dietary restrictions, such as allergies or sensitivities.

Americans Love Seafood

There is little doubt that Americans love seafood. In 2014 alone, Americans ate almost fifteen pounds. However, this is a relatively small number when you break it down, smaller than the recommended daily need for the proteins and other healthy side effects of eating fish and other kinds of seafood. In 2019, it’s important to learn whatever you can about the different health benefits from different types of healthy fish dishes, and more importantly, how to prepare these dishes correctly.

Finding the Healthiest Fish

Going to the store and choose pre-frozen fish may not always seem like the most appetizing choice. Still, there are ways to get your fix of shrimp, salmon, swordfish, tilapia, crabs, and pollack. Think about what you feel like eating and choosing the freshest fish that you can find.
