4 Crab Cooking Methods

Do you love crab? Come down to Costas Inn today!

Crabs are both a local favorite and an ingredient that many more people enjoy across the country. They are known for a sweet and delicate flavor that pairs well with potatoes, corn, and other seasonal vegetables. But for the crabs themselves, there are different cooking methods that you can try that will bring out the delicious flavor of this Maryland seafood favorite. Be sure to try out each of these four crab cooking methods.

Boiling Crabs

Boiling crabs is one of the most well-known and popular techniques for preparing crabs. You’ll just need a large pot, a pair of tongs, and your favorite seasonings. Bring water to a boil in your large pot. Salt the water until the taste is similar to the saltiness of ocean water. From there, you can add your favorite seafood seasonings before quickly adding your crabs one right after the other. Adding them rapidly will ensure that all the crabs will be cooked evenly and consistently.

Steaming Crabs

Steaming crabs is a great way to preserve the natural juices and flavors of the crabs. You’ll still need a large pot, but you’ll need to bring about an inch of salted water to a boil. Use a steamer basket or insert to steam the crabs. The bottom layer may boil, but they’ll act as the perfect platform for the rest of the crabs in the basket. Use tongs to remove the crabs and allow them to rest until cool.

Grilling Crabs

Grilling crabs is a combination of one of the previously mentioned methods and the grill. You’ll start my cleaning your crabs and then boiling or steaming them to the point of being half cooked. Leave them whole or grill them in halves or even quarters. People like to season them with olive oil, minced garlic, and chopped rosemary or thyme.

Roasting Crabs

Roasting crabs also starts with boiling or steaming them first. Set your oven to at least 450 Fahrenheit and season the crabs with oil or melted butter, garlic, or green onions. Set the crabs in a single layer in a roasting pan to ensure that they all cook evenly.
