Try These Sauces with Your Next Batch of Crab Cakes!

Drinking iced tea, lemonade, beer, and even water are some great ways to wash down huge, meaty crab cakes, but the right sauce can tie the whole experience together.

Sauce makes everything better. When you find the right sauce combination, you know your taste buds are on the highway to flavor town. Drinking iced tea, lemonade, beer, and even water are some great ways to wash down a huge, meaty crab cake, but the right sauce can tie the whole experience together.

Russian Salad Dressing

Whether you’d like the dressing on a sandwich or in a puddle on your plate, it makes a great sidekick to your crab cake meal. It’s so easy to make, you can try to do it at home! Chop up one tablespoon’s worth of onion. Then combine it with a cup of mayo, a quarter cup of ketchup, four teaspoons of horseradish straight from the bottle, one teaspoon of hot sauce, one of Worcestershire sauce, a quarter teaspoon of sweetened paprika, and just the tiniest morsel of salt. Mix everything together to give your next crab cake some extra kick that it didn’t have before.

Mango Salsa

Mangoes are a delicious sweet treat whether or not you enjoy them in smoothies or in your frozen yogurt. Did you know that you can also turn them into salsa? Not only that, but it makes for a fantastic sauce to accompany crab cakes, even if you want three or four instead of the usual order of one or two cakes. This is an easy way to remix your crab cake and give it something extra – from Asia straight to your mouth! First, you must put a whole mango in the blender. Then, add a single tablespoon of chili oil and one teaspoon of chili sauce. Mix until it is all smooth. The heat from the chiles provides a flavorful contrast to the sweetness added by the mango!

Spicy Chipotle Mayo

If you’re a fan of spicy sauces, mayonnaise probably isn’t something you seek out on a regular basis. That said, you can take your crab cakes to the next level with this recipe. For this, you’ll need ¾ cup of mayo, 1 chipotle chile garnished in adobo sauce, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of Maryland’s favorite, Old Bay, 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard, and as much salt and pepper as you want. It also makes for a phenomenal dipping sauce!
