Here at Costas Inn, we are proud to announce that we have won the Chattanooga Flavored Nation Competition. Your seafood destination, representing Maryland triumphed in the event that featured all 50 states. We won thanks to our famous crab cakes. Also of note: La Tasha McCutchen, the winner of season 13 of the TV cooking competition Hell’s Kitchen, placed second in the contest. Please read on to find out more!

The Flavored Nation

Food lovers all over Tennessee and from Chattanooga could eat their hearts out and never have to travel out of town to do so. One chef from each of the fifty states flew in for the competition, where they were meant to prepare and serve one dish representative of their home states. Every state had its booth for visitors to the food convention to wander through and try something different every time.

Famous Chefs

Chefs from all over the country converged on Chattanooga. They are all professionals who are award-winners and have gained respect and renown within the culinary industry for their skills and knowledge. LaTasha McCutcheon represented South Carolina. Nick Wallace of Mississippi, Christine Hazel of New Jersey, and Robyn Almodovar from Florida. All three chefs are champions of the TV show “Chopped.” Our own chef, owner-operator Pete Triantafilos were also involved in this huge competition.

The Food

The real star of the show at Flavored Nation is, of course, the food. There are many unusual dishes from around the country brought into the event. Still, the one that took the cake, figuratively speaking, was the house-made crab cakes that are always such a winner closer to home here in the Baltimore area. Crabmeat, bread, and breadcrumbs are the three most essential ingredients in a delicious crab cake. Blue crabs from the Chesapeake Bay provide the meat in our crab cakes, but other types of crabs are also used. The prizewinning crab cakes at Flavored Nation use the blue crabs, but Dungeness crabs are also often used in crab cakes.
