3 Reasons Why Seafood Should Be Part of Your Diet

3 Reasons Why Seafood Should Be Part of Your Diet

Fish features a lot of omega 3-fatty acids which are great for the heart.

Seafood is delicious, and that’s reason enough to add more of it to your regular diet. But there are even more reasons why you should eat more seafood that have benefits for your health and wellbeing. Check out these three reasons why seafood should be part of your diet.

Good for the Heart

Eating more fish on a regular basis is a great (and delicious) way to protect and strengthen your heart health. Fish features a lot of omega 3-fatty acids which are great for the heart. They help slow the formation of plaque which can clog the arteries. Start by introducing more fish in about two more meals than usual. You could even consider substituting some of the beef or other proteins that you usually consume with fish.

Great for the Brain

Those omega-3 fatty acids that are so beneficial for the heart are also great for promoting healthy brain development. One type of omega-3 fatty acids, in particular, is called DHA, which is associated with proper eye and brain development in babies. While pregnant women are told not to consume raw fish, having about three servings per week of cooked seafood is a great addition to your diet.

Excellent for Your Mood

You’d be surprised by how direct the correlation is between the food that you eat on a regular basis and your overall mood. Adding more seafood to your diet is a great way to boost your mood. Switching your normal routine in the kitchen can act as a pick-me-up, and the fatty acid known as EPA has been linked to reductions in depression and anxiety.
